small scale original art work
This page features original, acrylic palette knife paintings in sizes 10x10 or smaller - mostly. The exception is the "Crops" section. My goal with these pieces is to offer an affordable way to purchase original art and inject some creativity into your space, even if you don't have a large budget.
It's a great way to start building your art collection, and also offers those whose walls are already full of art, a selection of pieces that can be displayed in small spaces, or on shelves or desktops. Plus, the price point opens up the option of giving a meaningful gift of original art to someone special.
Small Scale Palette Knife Paintings
"Crops"
A twist on the creation process, and a brand new affordable way to own original art!
What are "Crops" you ask? Well, let me start at the beginning. Creating original art is an imperfect process because every single piece starts with a blank canvas, tubes of paint and some tools. There's nothing mechanical, fool proof or exactly repeatable, and sometimes paintings don't turn out as planned. Some turn out in a way that the whole painting goes in the trash, but some I keep because they have parts that "sing" - sections I love and can't bear to trash. Crops are those pieces - the gems mined from the larger works - cropped out, re-stretched onto smaller stretcher bars, or for 4x6" pieces, may be bonded to a larger piece of canvas, then signed, matted and framed. And the added benefit? This process helps cut back on waste materials going to the landfill. I stretch new canvas on the vacated stretcher bars and start something new, and these little gems still get to shine.
Crops are priced at roughly 2/3rds of my regular prices.
Mixed Media Series
I have long been obsessed with trying new ways to capture images of leaves floating on the water, and settling onto rocks. Why? It feels so peaceful, and you will only ever notice if you slow down to watch, Plus it involves so many components of nature: earth, water & plant life. I normally paint big, so this series is a bit of an indulgence in one of my fascinations, and an extension of my never ending pursuit of ways to capture elements of nature and bring them indoors. Enjoy! If you're a nature lover you may be drawn in as well!
So, a little about what "mixed media" means in this case: Leaves of painted artist canvas on birch panels, with rocks and pebbles of molding paste, pumice stone, pearl mica, paint and gel medium, and leaves floating on resin.
